Why is it not possible to close nuclear power plants and build more fossil fuel plants

Firstly, in order to ensure environmental safety. In normal, regular operating mode nuclear power plants are the most environmentally friendly and stable source of electricity.

Secondly, because of the depletion of natural resources. Oil and gas reserves are depleting and the demand for electricity is increasing; windmills and solar panels are not able to meet growing requirements (solar power plants provide 0.1% of energy needs, wind power plants – 1.9%).

Thirdly, for economic reasons. Even in the 19th century Mendeleev noted that burning oil is like burning banknotes in a stove. Oil and natural gas are the most valuable and irreplaceable natural resources for the chemical industry. The production of plastics, synthetic fibres, paints and varnishes and other products is not possible without them. These words of the great scientist, the author of the periodic table of elements, are clearly worth considering.
