Transportation of the spent fuel is carried out mainly by rail and road transport. Materials are loaded into special transportation containers with all safety precautions and in full compliance with the requirements of all national, as well as international, norms, regulations and security standards (of technological, physical, nuclear and radiological protection). Tests have proved failure-safety of the containers’ construction, even in serious emergency situations, such as staying in a fire zone at 800°C, falling from a height of nine meters onto a hard surface and on a steel rod and application of a force of impact equal to that of an airplane crash. Specially designed vessels transport SNF around the world. In more than 50 years of transportation of nuclear materials there has not been a single accident.
