A slew of measures to strengthen relations between Pakistan and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will be explored during the ongoing visit of the agency’s Director General Yukiya Amano.
General Amano is on a three-day visit to Pakistan. During this he will be visiting various civil nuclear facilities in Pakistan. The trip will also include the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) centres in Islamabad, Faisalabad and Karachi.
The IAEA Chief on his arrival met Pakistan Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. Prime Minister Abbasi also emphasized that Pakistan was ready to further strengthen partnership with the IAEA in pursuance of Sustainable Development Goals worldwide. He also discussed Pakistan’s plans to push for clean energy in the form of nuclear energy with General Yakano.
Pakistan has been cooperating with the IAEA in areas of nuclear power, industrial application of nuclear techniques, non-destructive testing, food and agriculture, soil improvement, radiation induced mutation, radiation oncology and nuclear medicines, environmental protection and isotope hydrology.
The IAEA is the international centre for cooperation in the nuclear field. The agency works with its members and multiple partners worldwide to promote the peaceful use of nuclear technology.
