Rosatom sets up first overseas public information office in Bangladesh

In the backdrop of construction starting for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, Russian giant Rosatom has opened its first overseas public information office in Ishwardi that will serve as a communication channel with local residents. The aim of the office is to create awareness among the public about the nuclear energy.

The public information office was inaugurated on December 24. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chief Engineer of Bangladesh branch office of ASE Group of Companies Yury Koshelev, representatives of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC) and local government officials among others. The priority of the office is to manage perception of the nuclear industry.

“We all know that Bangladesh embarked on nuclear energy. The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant will allow reduce energy deficit in the country. But a nuclear plant is not only about power, it creates new jobs, enriches knowledge, gives an impetus to nation`s industrial and scientific development. We expect representatives from government and non-government organizations, teachers, students, general public as well as media persons to visit the public information office,” said Senior Vice President for International Projects of АSE Group of Companies Alexander Khazin.

“The basis of our approach is to promote direct dialogue with all concerned…. Direct contact with each target group is the key to successful communication,” added Acting CEO of Rosatom South Asia Andrey Shevlyakov.
